Tailoring & DressmakingTools
There was a time, not so very long ago, when every town had a tailor and dressmaker. Most were skilled crafts men and women who built made-to-measure suits and dress from patterns.  Others were true artists who created completely original and unique garments for their clients.

As with all craftsmen and artists, tailors and dressmakers employ special tools in the practice of their craft. Tools which are now days difficult, if not impossible, to find.

Our tailoring tools are reproductions of original tools from the golden era of custom tailoring and dressmaking. Each tool is made by hand in the USA of durable hardwoods and designed to last a lifetime of hard use.

Tailor Board

The Tailor Board is another hard-to-find tailoring tool from the golden age of garment construction.

Based on a classic design, our Tailor Board has numerous points and surfaces especially designed for pressing shoulder seams, sleeves, jacket sides and other difficult to press areas.

The base is 38 cm (15 inches) long and 14 cm (5-1/2 inches) wide.

Our Tailor Board is constructed of American hardwood and assembled using hardwood dowels instead of screws to insure a lifetime of professional use. The intire tool is then hand-sanded to insure smooth seams.

The Magic Stick point turner is one of those must-have tools you never knew you needed until you try one.

The sharp end of the Magic Stick is used poke corners right side out after turning. The beveled end is used to smoth out curves and seams.

You can also use the Magic Stick as a pressing tool to form crisp corner and curved seams.

Made from American alder. the Magic Stick is hand sanded to ensure smooth seams.
The Tailor's Clapper is used to flatten bulky seams such as facings, collars, and hems.

Begin by using a steam iron to press the seam. Once the seam has been pressed, use the Clapper to create a sharp edge.

Beating or "clapping" the seam produces a professional seam.

The Tailor's Clapper is often used in combination with our Seam Stick.

Each of our Tailor's Clapper is built from two pieces of American hardwood glued cross grain for extra strength and a lifetime of professional use.
The Point Press is used to press difficult to reach seams. The sharp end is used for inside of pointed collars and lapels. The rounded end is perfect for curved collars, lapels and facings.

The base is designed to be used as a Tailor's Clapper for flattening bulky seams of facings, buttonholes, hems, and pleats.

Made from sturdy American hardwoods, each Point Press is assembled with hardwood doweling rather than screws for a lifetime of professional use.

The long arm is 54 cm long (21-1/2 inches) and tapers from a width of 12 cm (4 3/4 inch) at the base to 3.5 cm (1-1/4 inch) at the tip.
